Temporal caused flood on Avenida do Estado, affected the circulation of trains in the metropolitan region and caused overcrowding in the stations
The metropolitan region of being hit by heavy rain on the afternoon of Monday (31). The ABC Paulista region already records flooding and streets taken by the waters. In Mauá, the amount of rain recorded in the last three hours was 131 mm. The city issued a statement guiding the population to redouble the care, “especially in a slope area”.
In Santo André and São Bernardo do Campo, the precipitation recorded so far were 84 mm and 52 mm, respectively. The data are from the Civil Defense, which issued a severe warning to the three municipalities and also to São Caetano, at 2:47 pm. “In the next few hours the weather is unstable and the arrival of the sea breeze favors the occurrence of new rainfall areas over Greater São Paulo,” says the capital’s Emergency Management Center (CGE). The whole city is in a state of attention for flooding.
State Avenue even “disappeared” after the Tamanduitai River partially overflows. The circulation of trains was even paralyzed on line 10-Turquoise between the mayor Celso Daniel-Santo André stations (which became flooded) and Mauá. Still in Mauá, a house collapsed in Jardim Zaira. The Fire Department has been called and there is no information on victims yet.
In the state capital, the CGE declared a state of attention to flooding at 3:35 pm. Strong rainfall were recorded in the subprefectures of Vila Prudente, São Mateus and Capela Socorro. According to the Fire Department, between 1:30 pm and 4:20 pm, five calls were recorded for tree falls and two for floods. The forecast is that the rains continue until the 6th.
