The opposition blamed the coalition that on Tuesday it blocked an extraordinary meeting of the National Council (NR) of the Slovak Republic on the proposal for the dismissal of Defense Minister Robert Kalinak (Smer-SD). According to opposition MPs, the minister is to leave office because he did not state the ownership of the house in Croatia in the property declaration. They stressed that the coalition does not respect democratic rules.

The appeal was initiated by the Movement Slovakia and the Chairwoman of the Committee of the National Council of the Slovak Republic for the incompatibility of functions Veronika Remišová (Slovakia, for people, CH). At a press conference, deputy Igor Matovic blamed Kalinak for not coming to the meeting and did not allow the opposition to negotiate a proposal for appeal. He recalled that even in previous months the coalition did not support the negotiations on the appeal of other ministers. Therefore, all proposals are moved for later. He reiterated that the constitutional law clearly states that in the performance of office, a public official must not prefer personal interest over the public.

“What other evidence we need for Robert Kaliňák to consciously violate the constitutional law. He also boasts and says that he would do it again. So he concealed a two -million villa, at the same time he says he would do it again, that is, nothing else, just that he committed a conscious scam, ” He claims Matovic.

Remišová thinks that the minister has openly laughed in respect of the laws. She recalled that Kaliňák filed a complaint with her. She stressed that she could not betray his family’s property, as they were not in the property declaration. According to her, the members of the committee are not committed to confidentiality, so they can talk about everything that will be discussed at the committee meeting. On Tuesday they will deal with three suggestions on Kalinak, one is from the Foundation Stop Corruption and two from opposition MPs. At the same time, they should address the initiative to Remišová.

“So today, proceedings will be opened, then when the proceedings are open, public officials have ten days to statement, that is, I will send my argument and everyone who leads to incentives can send their arguments,” she said. The proceedings are to be decided at the next meeting, about a month. A possible fine should also be voted on.

“Coalition deputies have again ignored the parliamentary session called by the opposition. They do it regularly, they will completely cough on democratic rules,” The head of the opposition PS Michal Šimečka stated. According to him, Kalinak acted unjustifiable and unjustifiably. “He favored his own interests and interests of his family over constitutional law, and he prefers that it is all right. He even repeats that he would do it again. What gives an example to people?” asks.

On Tuesday morning, at the beginning of an extraordinary meeting to the appeal of Kalinak, not even the deputies did not present for the second time. Another attempt to open the meeting will be on Wednesday (April 2) in the morning. The opposition criticized that Kaliňák did not state in the property declaration of the villa in Croatia owned by his wife. According to them, the constitutional law does not allow such concealment.

Kaliňák had previously explained that he did not mention the property of his wife in the property declaration because he wanted to protect the privacy of the family. He pointed out that his income fully covered the value of the property and his family could afford it due to his long -term business. He also spoke of interference with his family’s privacy by the opposition.
