Arminia Bielefeld, the German third division team, surprised by defeating Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 in the German Cup Half up, ensuring an unprecedented place in the final of the competition.
Leverkusen, the current German champion and trophy holder, entered the field with an eleven strong and even started in front with a goal by Jonathan Tah, on 17 minutes. However, Bielefeld’s response did not take long: Marius World drew on 20 minutes and Maximilian Grosser consumed the turnaround on 48 minutes.
This feat makes Arminia Bielefeld in the first third division team to reach the German Cup final. The club, which played the Bundesliga between 2020 and 2022, has faced difficulties in recent years, but now writes a golden page in its history.
The other semi-final will be played this Wednesday between Stuttack and RB Leipzig, to define Bielefeld’s opponent in the grand final.
Bielefeld beats Leverkusen and goes to the DFB Pokal final for the first time in history 🤩
