Agrishow’s organization, the largest agricultural fair in Brazil, projected on Tuesday that business intentions generated at this year’s event could reach about $ 15 billion, driven by a record grain crop and good profitability of products such as coffee and cane.

This would represent a growth of about 10% over last year’s amount, despite a challenging interest scenario, which are higher in 2025 at the extent of the high of the Selic basic rate.

“We will work to achieve this number,” said Agrishow President João Carlos Marchesan during an interview with journalists.

According to him, the dollar quotation of the real “is not bad” for agricultural business, as is commodity prices.

“It is not losing money, but is not making much; the farmer is earning in productivity,” he said.

Marchesan mentioned that the costs of acquiring inputs decreased, which favors investments.

“All of this helps to bring a balance; all this contributes to this growth forecast,” he added.

He regretted Selic being at 14.25% per year, the highest level in more than eight years after five consecutive rates of the rate, which may limit some businesses.

“The issue of credit is scarce. With Selic bordering the 15%, the amount of equalization that needs to be made, if the government makes any loan, the government has to equalize…”, he said, referring to the Treasury subsidized interest.

On the other hand, he recalled that the government faces budgetary problems, which reduces the offer of resources to subsidies.

“The government is making the most effort, but we are not very confident that the new crop plan is abundant,” he said.

Thus, Marchesan believes that farmers will largely invest with their own resources. “So we are hopeful.”

The event, which will take place between April 28 and May 2, is expected to gather about 800 exhibitors in Ribeirão Preto (SP).

The mayor of ABIMAQ’s agricultural machinery and agricultural implements, Pedro Estevão Bastos, recalled that the forecast is that sales of agricultural machinery in the country this year should grow 8.2% compared to 2024, which reinforces optimism for the fair.

He said sales in the last four months have been positive compared to the same period last year.

“Last year, we had a harder year because of the drought, and this year we are expecting sales to increase,” he said.

According to him, the good moment that the coffee, cane and orange sectors are going through should also favor sales of agricultural machinery.
