Donald Trump’s Department of Justice (DOJ) requested the filing of the process for its supposed effect on anti-immigration measures in the city
A judge filed, on Wednesday (2), the charges of corruption against the mayor of New York, after the Justice Department (DOJ) of requested the filing of the process for its supposed effect on anti-immigration measures in the city. In a 78 -page document, Dale Ho, a judge of the Southern New York District Court, agreed to “grant” the motion proposed by the DJ to reject the accusations, but also closed the door to the later reopening of the case against Adams, as the federal authorities desired. “Doj is not seeking to terminate this case once and for all. Instead, his request, if granted, would leave Mayor Adams open to a new accusation at any time and for any reason,” argued the judge, so he decided to file this option, “which means that the government cannot submit the accusations in the complaint against the mayor.”
Adams was accused of illegal political campaign financing and receiving bribes from employees and entrepreneurs from Türkiye. After weeks of uncertainty, Judge Ho accepted the request of the administration of Trump, which led to the resignation of several prosecutors, including that of the main acting prosecutor of the New York Court Danielle Sassoon, designated by the Republican President, considering that the order “equivalent to a quid pro quo.” The order issued in mid-February by Number Two of the DJ, Emile Bove, a former Trump lawyer, to archive the corruption case against Adams, was perceived as an interference of the new government in a Manhattan Court used to dealing with cases of authorities.
According to his arguments, such accusations prevented the Democratic mayor from pursuing irregular immigration in the city of 8.5 million and interfered in his reelection campaign in November 2025. Since he was formally indicted in September last year, Adams declared himself innocent and refused to resign, although many of his collaborators have left their office.
