Lula loses support from faithful voters in the Northeast, among the poorest and women

Among the northeastern voters, there are 52% today who approve Lula against 59% who said the same in December last year. Meanwhile, the disapproval went and 37% to 46%. Since October last year, the difference between approval and disapproval has fallen and 43 percentage points to only six points. It was Lula’s greatest loss of support among all regions in these five months.

The worst rates of Lula appear in the southern region, where there are already 64% those who disapprove of the government, against only 34% those who approve. In January 2025, there were 59% those who disapproved of 49% those who approved.

Then the Southeast region appears, where the disapproval rate jumped from 53% to 60%. Meanwhile, approval shrunk from 42% to 37%. Already in the Midwest the approval was from 48% to 44%, against a disapproval that went from 49% to 52%.

Women

For the first time since the beginning the historical series of Genial/Quaest, women began to disapprove of the Lula administration. There are now 53% of voters who reject the current government, against 43% that approve it. In January, there were 49% approving and 47% disapproving. The index is still much better than among men group in which 59% disapprove (52% in January) and 39% approve (45%).

Lula also sees the loss of popularity in the income range up to 2 minimum wages, in which he always had greater support. Still, the president has greater approval than disapproval in this range: 52% to 45%. In December, the indices were and 56% and 39% respectively. In other tracks, the indices also got worse and are much more negative. Among the voters who earn between two and five minimum wages, there are now 61% disapproving and 36% approving. Already in the range of those who earn over five minimum wages, those who disapprove are 64% and those who approve are 34%.

The Quaest Institute heard 2,004 Brazilians between March 27 and 31. The survey error margin is two percentage points for more or less and the survey reliability index is 95%.
