Former professional Slovak tennis player and the most successful coach of Grand Slam history Marián Vajda celebrated 24th March Jubilee for 60 years. Under his leadership, Serb Novak Djokovic became a world unit and won 20 of his 24 titles at the Big Four events. He coached the star tennis player with a short break of 15 years – from June 2006 to May 2017 and after less than a year they renewed the cooperation again.
Round birthday celebrated over the weekend in the circle of his loved ones – Ingrid wives, daughters of Nikola and Natalie and brother and well -known actor Jozef Vajda. For the celebration, the family prepared a large chocolate cake with fruit, which was his portrait, followed by a gift of gifts. Photo can be found in the gallery!
Marián Vajda was born on March 24, 1965 in Považská Bystrica. Tennis started playing at the age of 10 in the successful hatchery of young players in Piešťany. In youth competitions he represented the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and in 1982 he won the title of youth champion in Pardubice. He worked on the professional circle between 1982 and 1994. His highest placement was 34. The singles place (September 1987) and 118. The doubles place (April 1990).
In professional tennis, his greatest achievements were victory at the premiere MS. Grand Prix Čedok Open in Prague in Prague 1987 and a year later triumph at the Grand Prix in Geneva. In 1994 he became a member of the first Slovak Davis Cup team, which helped to advance to the upper class. Later he ended his gaming career and started his coaching.
As a coach he achieved excellent success during the four -year period with Dominik Hrbatý, at the same time he worked as a coach in the Davis Cup team and later took the position of captain of the Fedcup Cooperative of the Slovak Republic. Between 2001 and 2005 he was a coach of Karol Kučera. Then Djokovic was involved. SRB won the first title in the big four tournaments in January 2008 in Melbourne. Three and a half years later, after Wimbledon, he first sat on the male tennis throne. After completing their cooperation with „Nolem“ He was involved in May 2022 Alex Molčan. A year later, both confirmed the end of the cooperation in September.
Vajda after the victory of the Serb at Roland Garros in June 2021 revealed what he admires on it. „Everything. Especially his approach. He is an absolute professional. The workouts seems to be more under pressure. He wants to improve every element of his game. I admire he wants to be better and better. I greatly appreciate access to his training and tennis outside the court. It allows him to be the best at Grand Slam, ”said the coach website Tennismajors.com.
After the second end of cooperation with Vajdo in March 2022, Djokovič said: „Marián stood by my side during the most important and memorable moments of my career. Together we have achieved incredible things and I am very grateful for his friendship and devotion for 15 years. Even if he is leaving the team, he will always be my family and I cannot thank him enough for everything he has done for me. ”
The Slovak coach considers most international tennis experts and journalists to be a world coaching personality. In 2018 he won a prestigious award for the coach of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). The Olympic Committee of Serbia honored him in 2010 and 2011 with the title Coach of the Year. It was introduced to the Hall of Fame of Slovak Tennis on April 11, 2008.
