After a year of postponement, President Duda approved the nomination of the Ambassadors, which caused criticism of Minister Sikorský with regard to the upcoming elections.

Polish President Andrzej Duda approved several proposals for the appointment of ambassadors after a year’s postponement. However, Minister of Foreign Affairs Radoslaw Sikorski said that the President should refrain from signing further proposals, given that his term of office will soon end, TASR writes, according to the PAP report.

Sikorski criticizes the proposal also in view of the upcoming elections

Sikorski said on Saturday that it is withdrawing proposals for Duda’s delay and the upcoming presidential election. At the same time, he stressed that it would be beneficial for Polish diplomacy if the new ambassadors appointed a new head of state.

Minister on Wednesday for private RMF FM radio said that “on Monday began to sign” proposals in the presidential office, writes Pap. “After a year of postponing the Office of the Prime Minister, he just received the first ambassador nominations for a collaboration,” he said.

The conflict between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the President in connection with the nominations of the Ambassadors has been running since March 2024.

The first round of the presidential election will take place in Poland on 18 May. If no candidate receives an absolute majority, the two most successful candidates will advance to the second round of 1 June. Dudo’s term of office will end in August.
