Former Costa Rican President and Nobel Peace Prize winner Óscar Arias announced that he was canceled his American visas. This decision to him without further explanation reported via email. It happened after Arias said in February that the US President Donald Trump behaves as a “Roman Emperor”, Informs TASR referring to AFP and Deutsche Welle.

“The United States is – or at least they were – a paradigm of democracy. Today they have signs of autocracy,” said an 84-year-old ex-president at a press conference in his home in San José. “The French have given them a statue of freedom and now the United States limits freedom. Why do they want to punish those who think differently? This is not democracy,” added. Arias said he did not know why the visa was canceled, but stressed that he would not die and continue criticizing the US policy.

Arias criticized Trump, among other things, for his Migration and Customs Policy, as well as his behavior towards Ukrainian President Volodymyr Greeny During his visit to the White House. He also criticized the current Costa Rican President Rodriga Chaves, who he accused of being governed by Washington’s orders.

President of Costa Rica was Arias in 1986 – 1990 and 2006 – 2010. In 1987 he received the Nobel Peace Prize For mediation of peace in conflicts in Guatemala, Salvador and Nicarague. Arias is not the first former President of the Central American country to whom the US visa was taken, But for most others it was related to corruption in their homeland.
