Governor of Minas Gerais chooses not to implement the 20% rate after criticism and divergences between the states
The governor of Minas Gerais, (Novo), announced on Tuesday (1st.abr.br.2025) that the State will not implement the (Tax on Goods and Services) for international purchases of up to US $ 3,000.
The change, which was expected to take effect in Minas and 9 other states, would raise the rate from 17% to 20% about purchases made on foreign websites. The measure was criticized especially on social networks.
Zema said in an X (former Twitter) that the change was part of an agreement to protect the national industry. However, since not all states implemented the adjustment, the Minas Gerais government chose not to follow the increase.
