Former Mayor Arthur Lira (PP-AL) will be the rapporteur of the project that expands the Exemption of Exemption from Individuals Income Tax (IRPF) to R $ 5,000.
The choice was made official on Thursday (3), by the president of the Legislative House, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), in an X-publication, former Twitter.
Hugo also announced that the special committee responsible for analyzing the IR exemption bill.
The project
The project was sent by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) to the National Congress in March. The text will begin to be processed by the House of Representatives and should be analyzed by commissions before going to the House Plenary. If approved, the text will follow for Senate analysis.
The expectation of the government is that the new exemption range will be in force for the IR campaign of 2026. To this end, the bill needs to be approved and sanctioned later this year.
In addition to the full exemption, the federal government proposed discounts for taxpayers with monthly income between $ 5,000 and $ 7,000. With the proposal, the population of this income range will have discounts of up to 75% on the tax.

- Up to R $ 5,000: total exemption from income tax;
- From R $ 5,000 to R $ 7 thousand: partial exemption from income tax;
- Above R $ 7 thousand: application of the progressive table normally (no changes).
