Since making its debut as an Olympic mode in Tokyo, skateboarding competitions have been a favorite of the public, who has been excited about young athletes doing complicated nicknames in Street and Park. This Thursday (03/04), World Skate announced a measure that promises to change “the face” of the dispute.
From the Los Angeles games, children under 14 will no longer be able to compete in the sport. There will be a minimum age progression by 2028, which is starting from the moment. That is, in practice, those born after December 31, 2014 will not be present in the next edition of the Olympics.
The measure “eternalizes” Rayssa Leal’s record. At the Tokyo Olympics, the “Fairy” got the silver medal at the age of 13. Three other medalists in Japan – Cocona Hiraki, Momiji Nishiya and Sky Brown – could not have competed if the measure was instituted since the 2020 games.
Despite the 14 -year limit, skateboarding still has a milder limit than other traditional Olympic modalities, such as female artistic gymnastics and ornamental jumps, which only allow athlete from the age of 16 in competitions.
A curiosity is that, in the committee formed to make the decision, one of the members is also Brazilian and skateboarder Leticia Bufoni, friend of Rayssa Leal.
