The number of executions in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, today was known by the Iran Human Rights (IHR).
At least 230 people, including eight women, were executed since the beginning of January, especially for homicides and drug trafficking, according to data recorded by the IHR organization based in Norway, against 110 executions recorded in the first three months of 2024.
“The risk of a significant increase in executions in the coming weeks is serious,” warns NGO Mahmoud Amiri-Mongadam in a press release issued.

“The Iranian authorities could, as in the past, take advantage of the fact that the attention of public opinion (is focused on) the tensions between Iran and the US in order to further executions, including political prisoners,” he said, referring to the recent US -based of Tehran.
In 2024 it already represented a “frightening escalation” of appealing to the death penalty as a means of “political repression” by the Islamic Republic, where at least 975 people were executed, according to a report published in February by Iran Human Rights and the French non -governmental organization Ensemble La Mort.
This number, the highest since this count in 2008 began, is probably larger, as the overwhelming majority (90%) of executions are not made public.
The number of women who were executed also increased: 31 women were executed by hanging in 2024, an increase of 17% compared to 2023. There are women who were convicted of killing violent comrades or spouses who were forced to marry.
Machaza Kakay, 24, was arrested for the murder of her fiancée more than 4 years ago, was executed by hanging in Ispachan, central Iran, on March 29, according to IHR.
