In response to 25% tariffs imposed by Trump, a pause shipment until you find exits to mitigate costs

JAGU (Jaguar Land Rover) will suspend vehicle remittances to the United States from Monday (7.abr.2025). The decision responds to the 25% import tariff imposed by US President Donald Trump (Republican), according to information released by the newspaper.

The automaker said the suspension will be temporary. It will be maintained while the company evaluates ways to compensate for the additional costs caused by the new tariff. JLR is controlled by the Indian group Tata and has about 38,000 employees in the UK.

Vehicles already in transit to the United States will not be affected by the measure, considering the average time of 21 days for the Atlantic Ocean crossing. Approximately 25% of the automaker’s annual production, estimated at 400,000 units, is intended for the US market. Exported models include Range Rover Defender and Range Rover Sport.

O think tank IPPR, an independent London -based organization, estimated that up to 25,000 jobs can be impacted by the measure, with effects on the supply chain in the West Midlands region, which supplies the automotive industry with steel, plastic, fabric and engine parts.

JLR is studying the possibility of increasing prices in the United States, expanding presence in other markets and cutting costs, including marketing expenses and promotional materials.

In a statement, the company stated: “The US is an important market for JLR’s luxury brands. As we work to address new commercial terms with our business partners, we are taking some short -term actions, including a break -in -to -shipping break while we develop our medium -term plans.”
