The midfielder Luiz Gustavo, 37, from São Paulo, is hospitalized at Albert Einstein Hospital due to a pulmonary thromboembolism.
The athlete complained of pain in the ribcage on arrival at CT Tricolor, on Saturday morning (5), on the return of the cast after the match against Talleres, on Wednesday (2), by Libertadores. He was referred to the hospital, where he underwent image exams and received the diagnosis.
According to a definition on the medical institution’s website, pulmonary thromboembolism is a “severe condition where there is the blockade of an artery by clot that can cause chest pain and shortness of breath.”
In a statement, São Paulo reported that the athlete is hospitalized for observation and treatment, and will remain so for the next few days, until new evaluations. The steering wheel, therefore, does not face Atletico-MG this Sunday (6), for the Brazilian Championship.
