Birds spent 6 months in a rehabilitation center and were taken to park in Foz do Iguaçu
Eight rescue red macaws from wild animal trafficking in October 2024 in Guararema (SP) had a happy ending. After 6 months in rehabilitation at Cetras-SP (Center for Screening and Recovery of Wildlife of São Paulo), linked to the Secretariat of Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics of the State of São Paulo, the birds were on Monday (31.mar.2025) to the Park of Aves, in Foz do Iguaçu (PR).
The macaws were among the 163 birds seized by the Environmental Military Police in the center of Guararema, being transported precariously in cardboard and wood boxes inside the trunk of a car. Many were malnourished, dehydrated and injured. At least 20 had died before the rescue.
At Cetras-SP, the macaws were treated from a multidisciplinary team composed of veterinarians, biologists, keepers and technicians. For 6 months, they were subjected to an intense recovery process, with adequate food, medical care and adaptation to return to living in a pack.
