The latest volcanic eruption occurring in the Reykjanes Peninsula in Iceland lasted only a few hours, according to the Iceland meteorological bureau.
Although small earthquakes were still registered in the region, the probability that the soil above the underground magmatic chamber was reopening was decreasing, the institution announced.
The analyzes showed that the actual rash on Thursday was completed on the same day. “The eruption lasted just over six hours, the shortest rash in the current eruption cycle from Sundhnúkur,” the weather authority said.
The eruption in the southwest Reykjavik started on Tuesday morning, when the lava went along a crack of about 1,200 meters. It was the 11th of this type of 2021 and the eighth of December 2023.
The nearby Grindavík city was evacuated again, but in the end, the phenomenon did not represent a direct danger to residents.
