Defenses of the deputies argued that the Court committed omission in its analysis, but Zanin refuted this allegation, stating that what is sought is only a new discussion about the case
The minister, of the, decided to vote against the appeals presented by the defenses of three PL deputies, maintaining the decision of the Court that accepted the complaint of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR). The parliamentarians involved are Josimar Maranhãozinho, Pastor Gil and alternate Bosco Costa, who are being investigated for alleged deviation from parliamentary amendments. The deputies’ defenses argued that the court committed omission in its analysis, but Zanin refuted this allegation, stating that what is sought is only a new discussion about the case. The minister stressed the existence of “considerable evidence of authorship and materiality” that support the opening of criminal action against the accused.
The complaint filed by the PGR points out that parliamentarians would have requested a 25% bribe over the value of amendments to the municipality of São José de Ribamar, in Maranhão. The total of the demanded bribe reaches R $ 1.66 million, in exchange for the release of R $ 6.67 million in public resources. Former mayor of São José de Ribamar, José Eudes Sampaio Nunes, reported having faced charges and intimidation by the deputies to transfer the resources. Despite the serious accusations, parliamentarians’ defenses deny any involvement in the illicit practices mentioned in the complaint.
