6 errors that prevent peonies from bloom

Peonies are many favorite garden flowers for their impressive, fragrant rings and longevity. However, it happens that even a few years after planting, peonies do not bloom. Why does this happen? Although these plants are not too leptus, their flowering is influenced by several important factors – inadequate planting, insufficient care or nutrient deficiency.

In this article, we will discuss the most common reasons why peonies do not bloom and how to correct it to rejoice in the garden with colorful rings.

Make sure you have chosen the right place to plant flowers. Because the plant is perennial, it should be convenient in the area for it. If he only tries to survive all the time, the flowering will no longer have the strength.

Peonies are thermophilic plants. Therefore, they should be planted in a sunny side, in a partial shade. At the same time, the chosen location must be protected from the wind. Don’t forget about the soil that will become the main source of life of the flower. The peonies will be happy if they are planted in some alkaline soil with good drainage.

Try to keep the plant away from trees and shrubs. Their root system can quickly deplete the soil by depriving the flower most nutrients. Also, do not plant peonies at the wall (minimum distance of 1.5 m).

Incorrectly prepared location

Plant only healthy sprouts with 2-4 renewable buds that will grow new shoots, and a few 5 cm long roots for good nutrition. Dig a large 60 x 60 cm pit, add the drain at the bottom and fill the sprout with a mixture of fertile lands. The ground layer around the peonies must be 5-7 cm above the top layer.

Nutrition deficiency

As with any other plant, peonies should be periodically fertilized. This is best done in spring and autumn. However, do not overdo it, excess fertilizer will further affect flowering.

Good gardeners immediately rash nitrogen and potassium fertilizers when young red sprouts appear. As soon as you notice the buds on the branches, feed the plants with mineral or organic fertilizers. Wake the flowers in advance, even better if it rains. And 2 weeks after flowering, rejuvenate peonies with potassium and phosphorus. In addition, spray the shrubs monthly with complex mineral fertilizer solution.

Lack of moisture

The flower should be watered regularly, but this should be done in a slightly unusual way. It turns out that the root of the intake is not at the very base, but at a short distance from it (20-40 cm). Try to dig a small groove around the plant and add water. One bush will require about 3-4 buckets of water.

The buds are removed at the wrong time

You can adjust the flowering by removing excess buds. To get larger rings, the side structures need to be cut when they are pea size. But then there will be fewer rings themselves.

If you do not, your shrub will bloom abundantly for the first couple of years. However, over the years, it will begin to fade. That is why experienced gardeners recommend a bit of cleaning the shrub to prevent it from “overwork”. The plant will then have enough strength to delight you with bright flowers and at the same time develop its root system.

When it comes to the overall pruning of the shrub, it should be done in late autumn, when the plant moves into the dormant period. Also keep in mind that peonies do not tolerate more than a third of their branches during the flowering period. Delighted flower owners can easily overdo it with the number of picked flowers for a bouquet.

Prevention of diseases and pests

Like other garden and garden plants, peonies can be attacked by pests or various diseases. To protect the flower from this disaster, do prevention. If you have failed to protect the plant, resolve the problem as soon as possible.
