If you own a garden, you have certainly noticed that old trees have different holes and wounds. These damage may occur as a result of weather conditions, insects or natural aging of the tree. Do you know how to properly treat these wounds so that the tree does not lose its vitality and can serve you for a long time?
With the advent of spring comes the first work in the garden. As you walk around your garden, you may notice that your favorite tree has suffered damage during the winter. The branch broke and the wound remained in its place. Such wounds, or even deep holes, can be a breeding ground for various fungal infections that can weaken the tree and, in the worst case, lead to its death. However, if these damaged areas are treated in time and properly, your tree may remain healthy and fully functional for many years. Come with us to look at how to properly treat these wounds so that your tree continues to benefit.

How to treat the wounds on the tree
When treating wounds on trees, it is first key to eliminate pests who can settle in damaged areas, such as lesanes. Treatment may require several applications, but it is necessary to get rid of all pests who can continue to damage the tree and endanger its health.
Once the tree is removed by the pests, you can proceed to fill the wound. The best material is expanding foam, such as Urethan, which allows the tree to continue to grow because it is sufficiently flexible and adapts to growth. It is good to prepare the temporary walls from the cardboard before applying it to prevent its escape. The cardboard should be internal, not outside, so that the edges of the wounds remain open to the future growth of the tree. Shape the cardboard according to the wound shape and place it in a damaged area.
You can then proceed with the application of the foam itself, making sure that you fill the wound so that the foam is close to the edges and prevents moisture or other potential pests. The foam will gradually expand and create a tight cap. Once it has dried, crop the excess material and for a better look, you can paint the cardboard with a color that fits with the tree bark. This procedure will help the tree to maintain its strength and prolong its life by allowing it to concentrate energy on growth instead of on constant healing of damaged wounds.
Important advice at the end
However, it is important to remember that the treatment of wounds by this method will be as effective as much as possible if the wound is not too large and does not disturb the overall growth of the tree. If the damaged area threatens the stability of the tree, for example, if the wound reaches deep into the trunk, it is good to consider other options.
If the tree is grown and is located near a structure, in some cases it may be safer to cut down the tree to avoid material damage or the risk of its fall, which could hurt someone. However, if you believe that the tree can be saved and you have the right conditions for treatment, definitely try this procedure. You can look forward to the next years when you enjoy the shadow under his crown.
