The Débora Rodrigues Dos Santos Bolsononarista, a hairdressing by profession, 39 years and hair with blonde wicks, had never been in the Plaza de los Tres Powers, or in Brasilia. In the images of the capital of Brazil that on January 8, 2023 was one of the turba dots. Thousands of Bolsonaristas, with Brazilian flags and blind faith in which they had stolen the elections, the glazed buildings where the heart of Brazilian democracy beats. In the midst of that predatory euphoria, a man asked for help from the hairdresser. She caught a stylized statue and, with a red carmine bar, wrote “Lost, mané”(You lost, idiot). And he continued taking pictures with his mobile, as if they were tourism.
In hours or days, she and hundreds of people who were there where Dos Santos has been in pretrial detention for two years. Dos Santos is accused of the same crimes as former President Jair Bolsonaro, of the extreme right, including coup d’etat and damage to equity. She plays a 14 -year -old sentence.
Bolsonarism has raised it as the great martyr of the cause. The former president talks about weakness as if he knew her for a lifetime. And with a skilled campaign, Bolsonaro and his faithful have turned the Carmine bar into an emblem of a campaign for amnesty and have opened a crack in the doctrine of the Supreme Court of to the coup troop. First effect of the controversy: the judge has just sent her home with electronic anklet, the prohibition of using social networks and other restrictions. In a few days, eleven prisoners have followed the same fate.
And two of the open investigations against Bolsonaro have just been filed: one, for falsifying their vaccination card; The other, to import a humpback whale. The police still investigate him for other matters, such as appropriating some jacks given by the Saudi monarchy.
The ultras insist on the narrative that the hairdresser is a harmless mother, whose case illustrates the disproportion of punishments and what they consider a political persecution. For the investigating judge, Alexandre de Moraes, is part of the shock troop of a coup conspiracy.
The case has unpayable elements with which to build a powerful victimist story. A woman without a history who spent two years away from her children, aged 8 and 11, a red lipstick as a weapon. And other symbolic elements. The alleged crime -inormalized by a photographer of S.Paulo Folha– It was perpetrated before the headquarters of the maximum court entitled Justice, embodied in a woman with a bandage. The painting phrase is not innocent either. The original was snapped by a Judge of the Supreme to some Bolsononians who increased him in New York after Bolsonaro’s defeat. That “you lost, idiot”, in an unusual tone and language in a togado, triumphed in the universe of the memes. Brazil in its purest form.
That is the context in which on January 8, 2023 there was the scene that changed the life of the hairdresser forever. In the midst of that enfield mass that advanced, a man went to her. “I lacked malice because he started writing [la pintada] And he said: ‘My lyrics are very ugly, Moza. Can you help me? ‘ And I continued writing the phrase of Judge Barroso, ”she explained from jail during the trial, crying, with the worn blonde wicks.” He was not premeditated (…) I did not enter any building, I stayed in the square, “he added. After presenting himself as a citizen of good who had never committed a crime, the Bolsonarist begged Judge Moraes:” I want to ask her with all my heart. ” I had never separated from my children and this makes them suffer a lot. I just wanted to tell him that, excellence. ”
Bolsonarism lacked time to convert his distressed statement and the juicy details in heavy ammunition against the investigating judge and the rest of the room that will judge Bolsonaro for. As in Brazil the deliberations of the Supreme are televised, the whole country heard Judge Luiz Fux expose his repairs to the 14 years requested for the hairdresser. “I’m going to check that dosimetry [de la pena]. I confess that sometimes I find an exacerbated penalty, so I asked for a pause in the trial, ”he explained. That discrepancy in a room that had maintained a strong unanimity in the trials for the assault on Brasilia is the vein that explodes the Bolsonarism.
The Brazilian supreme, always attentive to the humor of politics, networks and the street, has embraced in the last years. Judge Moraes, visibly annoying, replied that “the defendant had been before the barracks claiming a military intervention (…) was not a simple graffiti.”
While the judges continue with their brave debate, thanks to this mother, the victimist story gains power among Brazilians who do not necessarily sympathize with the ultra -rightist. Judge Moraes emphasizes that it was an attempt at a book coup, “not a Sunday walk with Bibles.”
Dos Santos does not fit totally with the profile of the assailant of Brasilia: a white man between 45 and 54, married, who finished high school, works as an autonomous and wins the minimum wage, according to an analysis of the newspaper The globe. And a striking detail, among the 1,600 defendants were 15 people with a card of the Lula party and three of one more acronym to the left.
In the coming months, former president Bolsonaro, several generals and dozens of military and civilians will be tried for urging the coup conspiracy. A novelty because, since 2023, it has only accounts the troop.
The Plintoabios hairdresser, who lived with her husband and children in Paulínia, inside São Paulo, was one of those citizens of the Bolsononarist orbit who, after the electoral defeat, left everything and took a bus to Brasilia to camping in front of the Army headquarters – for the way,. From there came the day they took the assault on the Plaza de los Tres powers.
Among the 500 courts as material authors of the assault, half has been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison. Another 500 accepted an agreement not to be charged in exchange for doing a course of democracy, work for the community and staying away from social networks. Another hundred defendants fled abroad, to Argentina, to the United States, … where they have requested asylum.
