Honda tests the technology of electricity and oxygen production for ISS, plans to use it on the Moon.
Honda, in cooperation with American companies, will test renewable energy production technology in Earth’s orbit. In the case of a successful test, it plans to deploy it on the surface of the Moon. TASR reports according to AFP.
The automotive giant develops a device capable of producing electricity and oxygen thanks to solar energy and water, which should also be found in some monthly soils. It plans to test this technology on board the International Space Station (ISS). Honda already uses it in its electric vehicles, so in the event of an extension to space would “support life in space and earth”.
Moon tests
“During the lunar day, the system will use the electricity generated by the sun to power the process. The system of high -50 -pressure electrolysis of water from Honda will then produce hydrogen and oxygen,” the company explained.
“During the lunar night, when there is no sunlight on the Moon, part of the oxygen is used to breathe astronauts. The Honda fuel articles system will use the remaining oxygen along with hydrogen produced during a lunar day for electricity production,” she added in a statement.
Cooperation with companies
The proper functioning of the ISS Honda system will perform in cooperation with American space companies Sierra Space and Tec-Masters.
Several countries, including the United States and China, are preparing a permanent human presence on the Moon. Honda has been working with the Japanese Space Agency Jaxa for several years on the American Lunar program Artemis.
In recent years, several other automakers have also announced the space industry. At the beginning of January, the World One, Toyota, announced that it will invest $ 44 million in the Japanese missile start-up Interstellar Technologies.
