In high altitudes of the High and Western Tatras, a slight avalanche danger applies on Sundays corresponding to the second stage of the five -part international scale. This was reported by the avalanche prevention center in Liptovský Hrádok on the Mountain Rescue Service website (HZS).
The snowfall accompanied by extremely strong northern wind creates dangerous snow plates and pillows of different thickness. “Their layout is very locally, depending on the relief and the prevailing wind direction. They are often located under the saddles, rock walls and in the leaks. In good weather, such places for experienced visitors are easily visible, The loosening of the avalanche on steep slopes is possible especially with a high additional load, ” alerted the center.
The weather and snow cover have changed significantly due to strong cooling. “Winter conditions prevail in the mountains. The older snow cover will freeze on the stone and there will be new snow on its surface, depending on the wind and relief, ”said the resort. The small avalanche danger applies to the Low Tatras territory in positions over 1700 meters above sea level.
