In a video published on social networks, former first lady summoned the Bolsonarist militancy for the act in favor of amnesty to scammers who invaded the headquarters of the three powers on January 8, 2023.
An epic song served as a soundtrack for the text, recited in the way of a joke by former president’s supporters. They all wore white shirt with the saying “Amnesty now!”, Written with lipstick, and encouraged women to go to Paulista Avenue, this Sunday (6), wielding their makeup.
It was a reference to the case of, accused of five crimes: attempted violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, coup d’état, damage to listed heritage, qualified damage with violence and armed criminal association.
She became known for having stroked the statue in front of the (Supreme Court) during the coup attacks and became a symbol of the defense of amnesty for the opposition in Congress. For experts, his case also reflects the way the judiciary became a political target in the recent history of the country.
“The reason for the amnesty is to leave this story that the left insists on rescuing backwards. The Lula government is disturbed, talking about an attempt to blow is a smoke curtain for the lack of leadership,” says federal deputy Rosana Valle (-SP), who participated in the video.
“The pockets are using Debora to have a commotion, there are thousands of women arrested in the country. There can be no amnesty, because impunity leaves a message that it is possible to blow,” says federal deputy Luciene Cavalcante (PSOL-SP).
Born in Irecê, Bahia, Débora, 39, lives in Paulínia (SP), 117 km from the state capital. She is married, has two children – a 11 -year -old and one of 8 – and has completed a course for almost two decades to work as a hairdresser. In a statement to the Federal Police, he said he paid R $ 50 from his own pocket to travel by bus from the interior of São Paulo to the Federal District.
She spent one day camped in front of the headquarters of the Army Headquarters and, on the day of the invasion, walked eight kilometers to the three powers. Arriving there, he said he saw a man trying to paint the STF statue by saying “lost, Mané” and decided to help him, reports the complaint of).
In that context, the phrase “lost, Mané” referred to the speech of STF minister Luís Roberto Barroso, dictated to pockets who harassed him during a trip to New York, just after the 2022 presidential elections.
The hairdresser spent two years arrested in Rio Claro, in the interior of São Paulo, and even sent a letter, apologizing to, who denied her defense nine claims of provisional freedom.
The minister also voted for her sentence to 14 years in prison, with a fine of $ 50,000. He accompanied the vote, and Luiz Fux asked for views, suspending the trial on the last 24th.
On the 28th, Moraes decided to grant house arrest to Deborah. Bolsonaro saw, in the minister’s decision, a “tactical retreat”, believing that the penalty of 14 years in prison.
Paulo Ramiro, Professor of Sociology at ESPM (School of Marketing and Propaganda), says that the action of the hairdresser is not just a painting in a monument: it has symbolic weight, before the political and legal consequences.
“It is an affront to the instituted powers and an attempt to pass over the laws,” he says, remembering the importance of the sculpture “The Justice”, created in 1961 by Minas Gerais artist Alfredo Ceschiatti. The work reproduces the Roman goddess justice, which corresponds, in the tradition of Greek mythology, the Dice. Stylized, the sculpture has blindfolded eyes, in a representation of the impartiality of the judiciary.
According to Ramiro, Deborah’s attitude is inscribed in the context of neopopulism, ascending in Latin America. This way of exercising power, says the researcher, transmits to the supporters the belief that institutions have no legitimacy to perform their duties. Ramiro says that, at the source of the problem, the graffiti of the statue means a politicization of the judiciary.
He states that Bolsonaro attacked the Supreme Court throughout his mandate because the court had to expose himself to judge topics on which the legislature avoids discussing, such as behaviors, expensive to the former president’s militancy. “Faced with a little active congress, the STF politicizes,” says Ramiro.
In this imbalance between the powers, Brazilian democracy is weakened, becoming more susceptible to authoritarian arrice. Professor of Political Sciences at UERJ (Rio de Janeiro State University), Paulo Henrique Cassimiro agrees that the politicization of the judiciary has been a problem for Brazilian democracy.
“Barroso’s phrase is already a mistake. He didn’t have to say that, even harassed,” he says, adding that the case of the hairdresser will be used by pockets to vote the project about amnesty.
“By isolating the case of an attempt to scam, it is easier to make it seem that there is an exaggeration in its penalty,” says the researcher. “The 1964 military has never been held responsible for their acts. Not amnestying the 2022 scammers can mark a point of turning to democracy.”
Earlier last week, the PL leader in the House said Deborah’s candidacy in the 2026 elections as a symbol of the struggle for freedom of expression.
On the other hand, the left also exploited the lipstick symbology. In an event held for petistas began to defend popular mobilization on the streets, suggesting the appropriation of makeup by female militancy.
Echoing the speech of E José Genoino, lawyer Marco Aurélio de Carvalho, leader of the prerogative group, which is aligned with the Lula government, said the lipstick should symbolize the situation of thousands of women, imprisoned in the country’s “medieval prison system”.
For Gabriela Zancaner Bandeira de Mello, Professor of Constitutional Law at PUC-SP, the politicization of the judiciary has always existed, although the STF had to act on topics that Congress could legislate. “I don’t think it’s a big penalty for Deborah,” says Bandeira de Mello.
The expert does not think that Moraes contradicted house arrest to the accused. For her, the minister recognizes that the defendant cannot be penalized for the delay of the trial.
“There should be no amnesty. Our democracy is not yet consolidated. We have been through two impeachments and an attempt to coup,” he says.
