Politicians face accusations of embezzlement of money from parliamentary amendments
The first class of the Federal Supreme Court () is currently involved in the analysis of embargoes of declaration presented by three deputies of the Liberal Party (), facing accusations of embezzlement of parliamentary amendments. The minister, in his vote, chose to reject the resources, aligning himself with the rapporteur Cristiano Zanin. This trial is being led in the virtual plenary, a format where ministers present their votes in writing, and there is a possibility that the process extend until next week.
The deputies in question are Josimar Maranhãozinho and Pastor Gil, both from PL of Maranhão, besides Bosco Costa, from PL of Sergipe. The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) denounced them for alleged passive corruption and criminal organization. According to, in 2020, parliamentarians would have requested an improper advantage of R $ 1,600,000 from a mayor of the interior of Maranhão, in exchange for the nomination of R $ 6,600,000 in amendments. However, the bribe would not have been effectively released.
The rapporteur of the case, Cristiano Zanin, pointed out that there is enough evidence to receive the complaint and the consequent opening of a criminal action. The merits of the case, which will decide on the conviction or acquittal of the accused, is yet to be analyzed. In the first class, there are still the votes of ministers Flávio Dino, Luiz Fux and Minister Carmen Lúcia. The decision of the first class has already transformed the deputies into defendants, and the outcome of the trial is awaited with great expectation.
