Protesters gathered in the United States against President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, seeking to defend the country from a government who, according to them, threatens basic civil rights and asking for suspension of efforts to reduce government size.

More than 1,200 manifestations “Hands Off” were planned for Saturday in all 50 states, the Associated Press said. Organizers included civil rights groups, unions, LGBTQ defenders and veteran groups.

The rallies were some of the biggest demonstrations of public opposition since the beginning of Trump’s second term in January. Thousands of people crowded the center of Boston with posters saying “Save our democracy” and “take off the hands of social security,” while protesters in New York marched on the fifth avenue, showed photos and video images.

Barbara McKenzie, 71, a retired pianist who participated in a Beaufort rally, North Carolina, said she was concerned about issues such as women’s health and US policy about Ukraine and long -time European allies. She said the mass cuts of federal employees by the department of government efficiency of Musk made her worry about veteran health care and effective hurricane tracking.

“It all comes down to life or death decisions for people,” said McKenzie. “We are all enthusiastic and we are no longer holding on.”

The White House, in a statement to the AP on the protests, said that “President Trump’s position is clear: he will always protect social security, Medicare and Medicaid for eligible beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, the position of Democrats is to give social security benefits, medicaid and medication to illegal foreigners, which will lead these programs to bankruptcy and crush the elderly Americans.

Hundreds of people protested a few kilometers from Trump’s golf course in Florida, where he is spending the weekend.
