A group of protesters against the military promoted, on Sunday (6), the so -called Walk of Silence, in which they were remembered and honored victims of the state in recent years.

The act began in front of the 36⁰ Civil District of São Paulo, in the South Zone, where the DOI -CODI (Detachment of Information Operations – Center for Internal Defense Operations) was hosted. The site was the main center of repression of Brazil during (1964-1985).

Protesters called for the end of amnesty for those involved in crimes during the military government, the conviction of police officers involved in the deaths of innocents and the arrest of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

“From the beginning we have brought the mothers of May, the mothers of Osasco, from Paraisópolis, because the state violence, except for some middle class cases, happens in the periphery. The Military Police more than doubled the number of children and teenagers murdered. It is a scandal that continues to happen,” said Vera Paiva, daughter of former deputy Rubens Paiva. “

“It is relevant to understand where this conception that lives are negligible comes from. If it has a color, or lives somewhere I do not respect, or have a political position that I do not respect, I can torture and kill and disappear,” he said.

It grew 120% from 2022 to 2024 in the state of São Paulo, that is, since the beginning of Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) mandate, according to a report produced by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Brazilian Public Security Forum.

The concentration began at 15h. In the late afternoon, the gifts went to the monument in honor of the dead and missing politicians in the Ibirapuera Park region, also in the South Zone. The route of just over 1 kilometer was traveled in silence.

Passing through the region, a scholarship criticized the end of the amnesty against the military and argued that those arrested for the scammer attacks of 8 January are released. Police officers who security the act removed the protester shortly thereafter.

The left-wing demonstration took place a few kilometers from Paulista Avenue, where the former president promoted an act with 55,000 people-in charge of Datafolha.

Former state deputy Adriano Diogo (PT) recalled that last year the movement of opponents of the dictatorship was prevented from “discouraging” the 1964 military coup. This year, however, with the success of “I am still here”, and the reopening of cases of missing and political dead was possible to perform an act of repudiation to dictatorship.

Also present were leftist politicians such as former deputies José Genoíno, councilor Luna Zarattini (PT) and federal deputy Samia Bonfim (PSOL).
