The heavy rain of recent days has caused at least 22 dead in the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The number is still provisional. There are several regions without drinking water and energy and damage to homes and roads.
The authorities speak in a still provisional number. At least 22 people died in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, most due to drowning.
Due to heavy rains of recent days, the NDJili River, which crosses the city with 17 million inhabitants, overflowed and forced the cut of the main national road. Several conductors were retained for hours.
Several neighborhoods, many of them poor and densely populated, were without water and light supply. There are also houses and roads that have been damaged due to flooding or landslide. In one of the localities, six elements of the same family died after being hit by a wall.
The government spokesman shared on the social network X images of the meeting between various entities. They ensure that survivors’ searches continue and promise urgent measures.
Already considered a natural catastrophe by the authorities, floods and landslide are not new in Kinshasa. In 2022, they died close to 100 people.
