Acea thus advocates transatlantic cooperation as a way to avoid climbing the trade war
The European Automotive Industry Association (ACEA) has asked the European Commission to find a “constructive and negotiated” solution compared to US tariffs and to avoid retaliation actions harmful to competitiveness.
In a statement, Acea said that this position was subscribed by companies such as BMW, Iveco, Stellantis, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and Daimler Trucks, who were represented at a meeting with European Commission Chairman Ursula Von Der Leyen.
“The current volatility in global markets only increases commercial barriers and costs for companies and tariffs rise prices for consumers in Europe, the US and worldwide,” said Association Director-General Sigrid de Vries.
Acea thus advocates transatlantic cooperation as a way to avoid climbing the trade war and their damage to the economy of both blocks.
US President Donald Trump announced the imposition of a 10% global base tariff on all countries who consider it to create commercial barriers to US products, adding an additional tariff for those who consider the worst offenders. ”
A 20% rate will be applied to all imports from the European Union.
