Explosion happened around 1:30 pm on Sunday (6), when the driver lost control of the vehicle; Five people were injured
Last Sunday (6), a serious accident occurred on BR-101, in the Greater Florianópolis region, involving a trailer loaded with ethanol. The vehicle fell and exploded, resulting in a fire that hit 24 cars and 3 trailers. The incident happened around 1:30 pm, when the driver lost control of the trailer. Five people were injured in the accident, including the trailer driver and a passenger, both with severe burns. The Federal Highway Police (PRF) is conducting an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of what happened. Due to the fire in the truck cabin, it was not possible to determine the speed of the vehicle at the time of the accident.
The PRF plans to use technical teams to perform detailed expertise on site in order to clarify the factors that contributed to the tipping and subsequent explosion. The concessionaire Arteris Litoral Sul, responsible for the administration of the stretch of the highway, said the road was released at 5:09 am on Monday (7). However, there is still a slow 9 km in the Curitiba direction and 6 km towards Porto Alegre. At dawn, emergency teams worked intensely to remove 25,000 liters of ethanol from the site, minimizing the risk of new incidents. Despite the severity of the accident, fortunately, there were no fatalities.
