The US Department of Health and Social Services on Saturday late confirmed that a second child infected with measles died in Texas, although the exact cause of death is still investigated. It has not been vaccinated against the disease, TASR reports based on the AP report and the NBC News website.

A child’s child’s child at the UMC Health System in Lubbock in Western Texas “received treatment for complications (caused) by measles during hospitalization,” the hospital spokesman said. The hospital refused to add exactly when the child died.

According to a person, the US Minister of Health Robert F. Kennedy is to participate in the funeral of a child scheduled for Sunday.

The measles epidemic hit Texas at the end of January and the US authorities have so far registered 481 cases of infection. According to NBC News, at least 21 countries as well as in the capital Washington DC were reported in a total of 628 measles cases.

Already in February, the measles in Western Texas died an unvaccinated child, which represented the first death for this disease in the country since 2015. The epidemic has since been expanded to the states of Nové Mexico, Oklahoma and Kansas.

The US medical staff calls on people to vaccinate their children against measles. According to the American Center for Disease Control and Prevention, vaccines are safe and effective to 97 percent. Although the first of two doses is usually given to children between 12 and 18 months, it can be received by six -month children in the case of an epidemic.

According to AP, three to four million people, especially children, have become ill before the introduction of vaccination in 1963 in the US. At present, this is usually less than 200 cases. Most children overcome the disease without consequences, but in some cases measles may accompany serious complications such as pneumonia, blindness, brain swelling and death.
