Kremlin said on Monday that Russia is ready to do everything it can to help solve tensions between the United States and Iran around the Tehran nuclear program, while Washington demands that Iran make a nuclear deal or will be bombarded.
Moscow has repeatedly offered to mediate between both sides, after military action warnings against Iran made by US President Donald Trump shook the nerves throughout the region.
“We are in constant consultations with our Iranian partners, including the theme of the nuclear agreement,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
“This process will continue, even in the near future. And of course Russia is ready to make every effort, to make everything possible to contribute to the resolution of this problem by political and diplomatic means.”
During his first term, Trump withdrew the US from a 2015 agreement between Iran and the world powers that imposed rigorous boundaries on Tehran’s contested nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief. Iran says it needs nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and denies that it is trying to acquire nuclear weapons.
