The Constitutional Court confirmed the dismissal of President Jun Sok-Jola for an attempt to declare martial law, the election must take place within 60 days.
The presidential election, which will decide on the successor of the dismissed Head of State Jun Sok-Jol, will take place in South Korea on 3 June. The reigning President Han Tok-Ss intends to confirm this proposal of the government at its meeting planned on Tuesday. An unnamed representative from the Government’s environment told Jonhap on Monday.
“Given the seriousness of this matter and the question of determining the day of the election, the decision will be approved at the government meeting,” the representative said.
The presidential elections must be held within 60 days after the Constitutional Court on April 4 confirmed the appeal of Jun Sok-Jola from office for his unsuccessful attempt to declare martial law.
When he was 10 March 2017, he was dismissed from President PAK Kun -Hje, early elections were held exactly 60 days later – 9 May.
The election commission started registration of candidates shortly after the Constitutional Court Juna dismissed the office. If the election date is confirmed, the candidates will have to register until 11 May and the election campaign will officially start the next day.
The law also requires that the civil servant for the post of President resign at least 30 days before the elections, thereby becoming the final deadline for the registration of their candidacy.
The newly elected President will take the office immediately after the announcement of the election results.
The martial law declared Jun Sok-Jol on December 3 last year, provoked a political crisis in the country. His decision was canceled by Parliament after a few hours; Subsequently, he suspended the exercise of the presidential powers and initiated the process of his appeal. The Office for Investigation of Corruption of High -Landed Representatives (CIO) 15 January of State arrested the head of state in its residence in Seoul for revolt against the constitutional order. The Seoul District Court, 19 January, decided to take the President, who was in office for less than three years, into custody.
