Macron ensures that France is “firmly” to population displacements and any annexation of Gaza or the West Bank
The French president, Emmanuel Macron, said Monday from Cairo that the element that unites Egypt and France against the wars in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip is that “there is no double standard.”
“Although there have been many comments, we have in common with the presidency [egipcia] Here, either on Gaza or Ukraine, the same voice, that of La Paz, and there is one thing that unites Egypt and France: there is no double standard, ”said the Chief of State in a joint statement with the Egyptian President, Abdelfatah al Sisi.
Macron recalled that the position that Egypt maintains about Ukraine is “very strong” and that the Egyptians know the position that the French keeps over Gaza. “We defend peace and defend it everywhere,” he said at the end of a brief appearance in the Egyptian capital.
This statement occurs after both leaders held a meeting, in which they addressed different bilateral and international issues. The focus was in the situation in the Gaza Strip, on which he demanded “the return to the high fire and the release of all the hostages that Hamas still maintains” in the Palestinian enclave.
“France also agrees with Egypt at an important point, and I want to repeat it strongly here. We firmly oppose the population displacements and any annexation of Gaza or the West Bank, which would constitute a violation of international law and a serious threat to the security of the entire region, including Israel,” he said.
He also reiterated his “full support” to the Gaza Reconstruction Plan backed by the Arab League on March 4, which offers a “realistic route” for the reconstruction of the enclave.
After his statement, Macron and Al Sisi will make a summit with the king of Jordan, Abdalá II, in Cairo on the situation in Gaza and tomorrow, the Galo politician will move to the Egyptian town of Al Arish, near the border with the enclave, which will end his three -day visit to Egypt. (EFE)
