The cold Arctic air, which persists in Slovakia since the weekend, has brought snowfall to lower positions. Weak snow showers, on the floods of the mountains and more permanent snowfall, are in the north of the Slovak Republic for the fourth day. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMI) informed about it on the social network.
“It is a common phenomenon for this time of year, which has also occurred in recent years. We observed the creation of a temporary snow cover even in lower altitudes in the northern part of the country in several places, from a dust to about five centimeters”Noted meteorologists. According to the expected weather development, SHMI expects gradual warming by the end of this week.
On Tuesday morning, 20 centimeters (cm) of snow, seven cm in Podolínec, three cm, in Liesk, Poprad, Telgárte, Kamenice nad Cirochou and Medzilaborce and one cm were recorded at the meteorological station in Tatranská Javorina, in Podolínec, in Podolínec, in Podolínec. In the case of mountain stations, they measured 113 cm, Chopok 108 cm and six cm of snow on Strbske Pleso.
Based on the information of the avalanche prevention center, the Institute estimates the increase in new snow in the High Altitudes of the Western and High Tatras between 25 and 45 cm from Saturday (April 5) to Tuesday. However, it is unevenly distributed due to the wind. “From a hydrological point of view, these increments are not significant,” experts noted.
Due to the date and prevalence of warmer weather during March, the water supply bound in the snow cover according to the SHMI declined, with only alpine positions. “However, the ongoing cooling has brought a slight change, for example in the Upper Váh basin compared to last week, there was an increase in stock. In the basins of Poprad and Hron, there was a decline and in other river basins no longer snow reserves do not occur for several weeks”He said.
