Football has been living for a few years with Vari (Video Assistant Referee), the assistant video referee. A figure that, created to correct light and obvious errors in field arbitration, made the game a boring.
Non -clear and non -obvious errors (the most common, the marking or not penalties) are constantly checked by the VAR, costing minutes and more minutes of stopping the matches. Not enough, the decision made is almost always controversial, because the bids are almost always interpretative.
It also has the check of each goal.
The player makes the goal, celebrates. A little (or temporary) later, the goal is annulled by VAR: millimeter impediment. Frustration.
Or the player makes the goal and he is immediately annulled: impediment. Don’t celebrate. A little (or long) then the VAR validated. And the late guy celebrates, without the explosion of joy previously suppressed.
And the fan? Whether in the stadium or outside, you are just sure it was a goal after the field referee authorizes a new output of the central circle. Until then, the question remains: Was it thanks or VAR will nullify? There is nothing less exciting.
The dynamics and emotion, two of football’s greatest assets, are dying.
And now a decision of the Brazilian Football Confederation is the starting point to curtail the right to play players to play with the ball in the matches.
As a result in the decisive match of the Paulista Championship, in which in the final minutes the Dutch Memphis Depay, in the attacking field, near the corner flag, climbed the ball with both feet, the CBF issued a letter related to the attitude, which is subject to sanctions.
In this document, the entity guides the referees to punish yellow card the player who climbs the ball, “with the purpose of provocation to the opposing team”, besides marking a foul (indirect free kick) against his team.
Memphis of Corinthians balanced the ball for a second or two, which is the time to annoy Palmeiras players, who considered the action a mockery, a disrespect, an affront.
It is logical that if Corinthians needed a goal – it was not the case at that time, 0-0 served for the title – the Dutch would not do that. And it was really provocative. But was it purposeful?
Shirt 10, I believe, with the conquest close to occur, wanted, more than making a Palmeirenses marketing, pleasing with a small juggling to the thousands of alvinegros fans at the Itaquera arena – the command was Corinthian.
Within the sameness of football (with creativity and inventiveness in low, very little valued), something different, playful (a firula, an effect play, an irreverent dribble), is welcome. With no such plays, football loses magic.
I miss Garrincha’s days, which, I saw in videos, made diabrures before his marker, with no matter how objective, and no one complained. And I miss the former Cruzeiro Kerlon, nicknamed Foquinha, who dribbled rivals making embassies with his head (plastic, fun), causing extreme irritation to the opponents, who soon kicked him.
In the final of Paulista, Memphis did not know what he would create stir? I don’t know. I know that in the rules of football nothing says it is not allowed to climb the ball.
The CBF, instead of worrying about it, should find a way to “spoil” the var. This one, yes, helps to get the grace out of football.
