The defense of the Minister of Communications, said in a statement on Tuesday (8) that he is innocent and trusts that the (Supreme Court) will reject the accusations made in (Attorney General’s Office).

“The minister reaffirms his total innocence and points out that the offer of a complaint does not imply guilt, nor can it serve as an instrument for the MP [Ministério Público] Guide the country, “says a note signed by Juscelino’s lawyers, Ticiano Figueiredo and Pedro Ivo Velloso.

“The trial is up to the Federal Supreme Court, in whom Juscelino Filho trusts that he will reject the accusatory piece in the face of his manifest absence of evidence,” he adds.

The defense stated that it was not notified of the complaint and that he learned of it before the progress was in the procedural consultation.

“We have a dangerous evidence of being returning to the punitivist time of Brazil, when the MP was talking first with the press before speaking in the file,” say the lawyers.

In the note, the defense states that this is “the best opportunity to put a definitive end to this marathon of factoids” against Juscelino.

It also says that the case in which there was the complaint has no relation to Juscelino’s performance at the head of the Ministry of Communications, “whose management – as well as in all public positions that acted – is based on transparency, efficiency and commitment to public interest.”

“As a federal deputy, in the previous term, Juscelino Filho was merely indicated parliamentary amendments to fund the execution of works for the benefit of the population. The processes of bidding, execution and supervision of these works are the exclusive competence of the Executive Branch, not being the responsibility of the parliamentary who indicated the resources,” the statement says.

“The minister reiterates his confidence in justice and the impartiality of the Federal Supreme Court, believing that the truth will prevail and that its innocence will be properly proven.”

Juscelino was denounced to the Supreme Court in the investigation in which he had been indicted for by suspicion of passive corruption and other crimes related to diversion of amendments during the period when he was a federal deputy.

The process is under the rapporteur of Minister Flávio Dino and runs under confidentiality. It will be up to the Supreme to decide whether to accept the complaint and if he becomes a defendant.

Juscelino was indicted by the corporation on June 12 last year on suspicion of participating in criminal organization, money laundering, passive corruption, ideological falsehood and bid fraud.

At the time, he said he would be removed from the position of minister if he was reported by.
