Argentine Franco Colapinto, Alpine’s reserve pilot, was involved in a controversy when making xenophobic statements over Uruguay. The 21 -year -old said the neighboring country is an “Argentine province.”
“There are few Uruguayans. I don’t know the population well, but about three million? That is, Uruguay is like an Argentine province, they are as part of Argentina,” said the podcast interview Nude Project.
He did not miss the chance of pinning the striker, a Uruguayan team veteran and currently at Boca Juniors, the club whereby the pilot cheers.
“Cavani is here, playing for the boquita [Boca Juniors]. The guy is already Argentine, speaks as Argentine and has a way of Argentine, ”he joked.
“There are no things in Uruguay, they take what we invented. If anyone invents something in Uruguay, he takes to Argentina. In the end, I love Uruguay, but the reality is that he has more Argentines than Uruguayas there, does not?
Apology
Colapinto was the target of critics and, on Monday (8), used social networks to apologize for the statements.
“I wanted to apologize as soon as possible for the stupid things I said about. Obviously it was a joke. It was a fun podcast with friends! Sometimes I have difficulty understanding the extent of the nonsense I say. I didn’t want to offend anyone, they were playing with me about the breaded breaded and I was angry. I love Uruguay and the love you gave me last year.
