In the high altitudes of the High and Western Tatras, there is an increased avalanche danger on Tuesday corresponding to the third stage of the five -part international scale. This was reported by the avalanche prevention center in Liptovský Hrádok on the Mountain Rescue Service website (HZS).
The last period of snowfall was accompanied by a very strong wind. “In places where the snow was stored, dangerous snow plates and pillows of different thicknesses have been formed. The loosening of the avalanche on such slopes, especially in steep places, is already possible at a low additional load. Occasionally the occurrence of spontaneous, medium -sized avalanches,” alerted the center.
During the last snow period, 25 to 45 centimeters of new snow fell, but it fell behind a very strong northern wind. The older snow cover is frozen and very hard, on its surface there is a new, mostly plate snow of different thickness. The amount of new snow was strong winds to the forest zone, where it has a free and dusty character.
In the highest positions of the Low Tatras, there is a slight avalanche danger corresponding to the second stage of the five -part international scale. “Locally there are unstable snowboards and pillows – especially under the saddles, rock walls, in mulds and steep troughs of the highest positions,” delivered the center.
