IPEC: Most Brazilians are in favor of toxicological examination for CNH

The majority of the Brazilian population is favorable to Expansion of toxicological examination application to other professional categories in the National Driver’s License (CNH)in addition to professional drivers of trucks, buses and vans, according to a survey by the Intelligence Research and Strategic Consulting Institute (IPEC) released on Monday (7).

In the survey, 83% They were favorable to Bill 3965/2021, approved in the Senate in December and will be analyzed in the House this week, which provides to make the toxicological examination for people who are taking their first qualification mandatory, regardless of the category, for example.

The groups that are more in favor are people 60 or older – 86%consider themselves in favor of the measure – people who earn 1 to 2 minimum wages, 85%, and who earns up to 1 minimum wage, 84%.

“The measure will be decisive to increase safety on Brazilian streets and roads and curb drug use by our young people, avoiding accidents that, according to the Global Burden of Disease, represent one of the main causes of death among young people aged 14 to 29,” says Marcio Liberbaum, president of the Institute of Safe Traffic Technologies (ITTs).

“Toxicological examination has already proven an ally in the search to save lives in traffic, and this change will represent a significant step to make life not only on roads, but especially in big cities, safer and healthy,” he adds.

For the survey, IPEC heard 2,000 people from all regions of the country, between February 6 and 10.
