Juscelino Filho receives support from União Brasil after a complaint on suspicion of corruption with amendments

The Union Brazil Party expressed support to the Minister of Communications, after the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) sent to the Supreme Federal Court (STF) a complaint against him on suspicion of parliamentary amendments. In an official note released on Tuesday (8), the subtitle said that Juscelino has not yet had the opportunity to exercise the right to the contradictory and will present his defense in the Supreme Court.

“We reaffirm that complaints do not equal guilt, and that the principle of presumption of innocence must be respected,” says the official note signed by the national president of União Brasil, Antonio Rueda. “Due law process is a fundamental pillar of the Democratic Rule of Law, and União Brasil will not admit any kind of prejudice or early conviction,” he continues.

The party adds: “We continue to trust the seriousness and competence of Minister Juscelino Filho, who has been doing his work at the head of the Ministry of Communications with commitment and concrete results for the Brazilian population.” União Brasil also says that “it remains with the minister” and that it is “confident that he can clarify all points raised and reaffirm his integrity before justice.”

The PGR first filed a complaint against a top member of the government of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. The agency accuses Juscelino to receive bribes in exchange for the allocation of funds to the City of Vitorino Freire (MA), a municipality that was administered by his sister Luanna Rezende. The minister’s defense says he is innocent and indicated amendments to “works for the benefit of the population.”
