The Labor Court ordered the transport company to compensate the relatives of the bus driver who died in a tragic accident on BR-16 in Teófilo Otoni in December 2024. The accident resulted in the deaths of 39 people. Judge Guilherme Magno Martins de Souza, from the Caratinga Labor Court, recognized the objective responsibility of the company for the incident, highlighting the severity of the incident. The accident involved the collision of the bus with a trailer and three other vehicles after a granite block will be detached and hit the bus.
The total compensation granted to the driver’s relatives is R $ 570,000, divided into two shares. The driver’s children, 9 and 17, will receive $ 120,000 each for moral damages and another $ 120,000 for death damage, totaling $ 360,000. In addition, the company must pay a monthly pension of R $ 2,473 to their children until they are 24 years old. The driver’s parents will receive $ 60,000 for moral damages, while the three brothers will receive $ 30,000 each, totaling $ 210,000. Entrem argued that no irregularities were found on the bus and that the fault for the accident would be third parties, as pointed out by an inquiry from. However, the judge did not accept this argument and upheld the decision to compensation.
