The President of the New Party, Eduardo Ribeiro, said that one of the priorities of the acronym in 2025 is to make Romeu Zema possible to the Presidency of the Republic, if former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) cannot revert his ineligibility by 2026.
In an interview with Poder360Ribeiro highlighted the importance of Minas Gerais as a “pondulo state”-an allusion to swing states From the US elections-and evaluated that Zema, reelected in the first round in 2022, can be a strategic asset to consolidate a right-wing front in the country.
“Having an electoral asset as Romeu Zema is representing Minas Gerais, bringing these votes to a right plate, is absolutely essential,” he said.
Despite the movement around Zema, Ribeiro stated that the party still bets on a possible Bolsonaro candidacy and defends the construction of a wide front around the former president if he can make his name legally.
“I argue that in order to overcome the PT, it will be necessary to unite forces. If eventually Bolsonaro regains his political rights, the new must compose with him,” he said. According to Ribeiro, the party will always be “on the opposite side” to that of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT), whom he classified as leader of a “dying government”.
Bolsonaro was in 2023 by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) for abuse of political power during the elections of the previous year.
