Commentators Caio Coppolla and José Eduardo Cardozo discussed, this Monday (7), in The Great Debate (Monday to Friday, at 11pm), if the pressure for the advance of the bill that amnesty those involved in the acts of 8 January increases the institutional crisis.
The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB) ,.
Coppolla believes that the diagnosis of Brasilia’s elites about this crisis is completely wrong.
“The pressure for amnesty to the persecuted of January 8 is just the symptom of the crisis and not his cause, as the mayor did. In other words, if I can put it as a metaphor, go against amnesty is like trying to lower the fever without healing the infection,” said Coppolla.
“So what would be the infection itself? What would be the cause of this crisis that is ill our democracy? The origin of all institutional malaise is the authoritarian reaction of the Supreme Court to its critics,” he continued.
Cardozo understands that Hugo Motta was wise in arguing that he is cautious about the amnesty project.
“He said, ‘Look, I can’t increase an institutional crisis process with this issue that is a political discourse.’ It may even agree or disagree with political discourse, it doesn’t matter, but it is evident that such a situation generates a crisis, why?
“Because democracy that is not respected will always be violated. If we have an amnesty today, get ready for future coup attempts in the future,” he said.
