European Commission (EC) Last Monday It proposed the application of duties ranging from 10 to 25 % on the import of US products to the European Union (EU) in response to duties imposed in March by the US administration on European steel and aluminum. Member States should vote on the first reaction of Brussels to US duties on steel and aluminum on Wednesday (April 9). A qualified majority of votes is needed to block European anti -rics. The first group of retaliatory measures – response to 25 % of steel and aluminum import duties – includes products that the EU imposed duties during the commercial crisis in 2018, but eventually did not apply them. The Commission cut off Bourbon from this list, although the American whiskey was on the original list in March. US President Donald Trump threatened to impose a 200 % duties on European wine and other alcoholic beveragesif this kind of whiskey gets to the EU list.
In the second sequence, in response to last week’s Trump Euro -Commission duties, he proposes another, extended list of US products. To these would be from 16. May the duties of up to 25 %which, according to the EC, complies with the conditions set by the World Trade Organization (WTO).
This second list includes various things – from copper minerals and concentrates, through specific items used in construction, such as rails, metal pipes, to chickens – hens, various types of poultry meat or coffee.
