Formula 1 introduced this year an innovation that seems to exit directly from the world of video games: the return in ‘ghost’ mode. This new functionality allows you to compare, visually and in real time, the fastest turns of pilots during qualification.
In the case of the Japan Grand Prix, the comparison was made between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris, the two fastest in the session. In the images released, Verstappen emerges as a “ghost” – superimposed on the norris car – allowing a clear reading of the differences between them along each track sector.
Technology aims to make qualification even more exciting for fans by highlighting with detail where each pilot has gained or wasted time. In this particularly reckless qualification, Verstappen eventually won the pole position, in an end of Q3 full of tension and high pace.

The innovation was well received, with many highlighting the way viewers and the millimeter accuracy that defines the car sport at the highest level is closer.
