SAO PAULO (Reuters)-Chinese Vivo Mobile Communications announced, on Monday (07), the beginning of the company’s cellular production in Manaus Free Zone, expanding dispute for a market that besides consecrated brands such as Samsung and Motorola, has a strong presence of models distributed in the form of smuggling.
Vivo, which is not related to the telephone group’s telecommunications operator, will sell its devices in Brazil under the Jovi brand, the company announced, which in 2024 became the largest mobile company in the world, China, ahead of Huawei and Apple.
The Chinese company has not revealed investment values or details of its plans to Brazil, secondly press release.
“To consolidate its commitment to the country and streamline the distribution of devices, Jovi has already begun the production of its first smartphones in the Manaus Free Zone,” the company said.
“In addition to fostering local development, this decision ensures greater competitiveness, brings the brand closer to the Brazilian consumer and makes technical support and after sales service more affordable-fundamental factors to establish confidence between manufacturer and public,” the company said.
The specialized website Technoblog published in mid -March that Jovi already has a mobile phone with the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel). The site stated, without citing sources, that the model is 5g, will have mediatek dimensity 6300 processor and 8 GB of RAM with 256 gb of storage. The model will have two rear cameras and one front, said the site, quoting that “part of the assembly of the cell phone… will be made in Brazil, in the GBR Components factory”, in the Free Zone of Manaus.

According to Jovi, the brand devices are scheduled to reach the Brazilian market in the second quarter.
