The images showing the rescue of a two-year-old, missing and later found in a jackson ditch in the US state of Michigan, are thrilling the world. The case, which occurred on Saturday, is another example of how technology can be decisive for saving lives.
It all started when parents warned the Michigan Police Department: the child, who was watching television around 8:43 pm (local time), disappeared without a trace. Quickly, a search operation was mobilized that included pysters, agents on the ground and, crucially, a helicopter equipped with thermal detection technology.
It was precisely through this technology – which allows to identify body temperature variations even in low visibility areas – that the child was located. The closest agents were immediately directed to the scene and found the girl in a ditch, only with a diaper, but conscious and alert, although with signs of hypothermia.
After being assisted at the scene, the child was transported to the hospital, where it was confirmed that he was in good health.
The case has generated great repercussion in the United States, both for the relief of the happy outcome and for the effectiveness of the authorities’ response and the fundamental role of technology in the rescue process.
