“We monitor all the persons who were in close contact with the patient and perform tests to see if they are infected. So far no one has been positively tested,” said Eliud Aguirre, Minister of Health Coahuila.

The first death of a girl

The girl died on Tuesday early in the morning and several organs failed due to infection.

The H5N1 influenza virus was first detected in 1996, but since 2020 the number of outbreaks between wild birds has increased sharply, and the wild mammals were also infected. Experts fear that the circulation of the virus in mammals could lead to mutations that will facilitate its spread among people.

Global warning of experts

In Cambodia this year, two deaths at H5N1 including a toddler recorded. The United States announced one death in January.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), infection in humans can cause serious illness with a high mortality rate. It states that the cases found in humans are usually associated with close contact with infected birds, other animals and contaminated environments.
