EU Member States voted on Wednesday for the European Commission’s proposal (EC) To introduce commercial counterparts to the United States and agreed that duty on goods from the US will begin to be selected from April 15. The EC report informs TASR.

The EC proposal to introduce retaliatory measures was created in response to the March decision of the US administration to impose duties on the import of steel and aluminum from the EU. The Commission has specified that the EU considers US tariffs to be “unfounded and harmful”because they cause economic harm to both parties and at the same time the global economy and stressed that the EU favors negotiations with the US that would bring “balanced and mutually beneficial” results.

“Today’s vote of Member States means that after the end of the internal procedures of the European Commission and The publications of the implementing act of countermeasures will come into effect. Customs will begin to be selected from April 15, ” It is stated in the document mediated by the EU executive. According to the EC, these countermeasures may be suspended at any time if the US agrees to “a fair and balanced outcome of the negotiations”.

The Commission, according to several news agencies, is also preparing another list of goods that can be burdened with customs in response to so -called reciprocal dutieswhich was announced a week ago by US President Donald Trump, which means a 20 % customs burden on goods from Europe and 25 % cars. American products from this second list should be subject to duties from 16 May.
